Big Onofrio's Fountain

The "Big Onofrio's Fountain" is located near Pile Gate in Dubrovnik Croatia.  The fountain was built between 1428 and 1440 as both a fountain and a massive water container.

The water for the fountain came from an aqueduct system that transported water from its source some 12 kilometers away.

The Big Onofrio's Fountain was named after its designer, Onofrio della Cava.  As one would expect, there is also a small fountain in Dubrovnik designed by the same many.  It is appropriately called  "Small Onofrio's Fountain".
